Project background

Scott Sheldon has served as a strategic supply chain partner for Legrand/Pass & Seymour for more than five years, providing engineering, consulting and technology solutions. In 2009, Legrand asked Scott Sheldon to assist with the implementation of a consolidated facility that brought warehouse systems and operational processes under one roof. The greenfield site combines several Legrand operating companies, products and customers.

The “ah-ha” moment

We recognized that in order to meet the project goals, Legrand would need a provider that could develop, execute and then manage a holistic cost reduction strategy that would also improve service.

Action

The engineers at Scott Sheldon applied a fast-track WMS implementation methodology to quickly design the proper warehouse configuration to support their standard business processes.

Scott Sheldon engineers provided expertise and leadership in these areas:

  1. Greenfield facility layout and racking configuration
  2. Warehouse and transportation management system implementation and support
  3. Product velocity analysis and slotting

Results

Legrand saved more than $800,000, developed a ‘distribution excellence’ roadmap and conducted an assessment that informed recommendations for a WMS go-forward strategy that met the unique needs of their business.
